Complaint: ** **** and associates helped us file our taxes in 2010. This was the first time I had used an accountant and was unfamiliar with tax deductions. He led us to believe and told us we qu**ified for multiple tax deductions and never asked for documentation. His office c**led us and told us what our refund would be he never went over our tax return with us to let us know what was on it. We signed electronic**ly and that was that. Fast forward to three years later when an audit request shows up. At this time I went back and looked at our tax return and re**ized he had fradulently claimed information, he claimed we had $30,000 in medic** expenses which we never told him nor had proof for becuase it didn't happen. He **so put that we donated $5000, which when I questioned his staff about they told me to think harder that lots of people donate money around christmas time and forget about it. Not sure how I would forget about donating $5000. They were extremely unhelpful in the audit process wouldn't provide me with any assistance and lied to me about speaking to the IRS. This led to us owing the IRS $8,000 which ended up being over $10,000 due to IRS pen**ties and interest. He showed absolutely no remorse or concern for his actions. I was **so told by another accountant who I had to hire to fix the mess he made that he has a reputation for doing this. Extremely dissapointed would be an understatment. He took advantage of a young married couple and destroyed our finances.
Desired Settlement: I believe ** **** should have to refund us for the money we had to pay back to the IRS since we provided no documentation for the deductions he f**sely claimed we had. To this day he has yet to aplogize and his office had the audacity to send us a letter notifiying us that it was time to file our taxes with him.
