While the omlet was excellent and the hash browns very nice, the biscuit was doughty inside and the gravy over it was cold. The worst was the bear claw that I ordered to take home. It was wraped in plastic wrap and by the time I opened it at home, it was all soggy. Not a good review for my first time there.

Large portions with great prices, its kind of hard to beat! I’m a regular here and I wish I could say it was only about the food: the staff here are just as great. I recommend the Tri-Tip Dip!!

First things first - the décor and cleanliness of the restaurant were excellent. Food - another thing. My menu item was a waffle - it was the worst one I've ever ordered or eaten, though I only ate around the edges. First one was not completely cooked in the middle section so server returned with one that was a little more crisper (but only on the outside of the waffle). The inside part was thick, gummy and not anything like a waffle I've ever had - too much batter and no holes like regular waffles. Husband's breakfast ... read more

Business response:

Good Evening Mary Jane, Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your waffle. We use a sweet cream batter so the texture of the waffle should be more like cake and not like a regular Belgian waffle. I'm sorry that you didn't like it but I do appreciate the opportunity to improve. Thanks for letting me know and I hope to see you for that lunch sometime soon! Have a great night! Mostly we like Black Bear Diner. Our last experience was mixed. My wife and I both ordered chicken fried steak breakfast -- I with hash browns and over easy eggs, and my wife with breakfast potatoes and scrambled eggs. My fried steak was fine. My wife's had a very bitter aftertaste -- it was quite noticeable and unpleasant -- it was as if our various steaks were fried in different fryers, one of which was not good (old, too high a heat, contaminated -- whatever). We notified our server, who offered to bring her somethin... read more

Meal came much too fast. Half done with salad. The salmon was tough and not cooked enough. I had to send it back to reheat but the salmon was not cook even after that. The salad was good and the vegetables were also good. I'm thinking it was old and frozen salmon. I will try your breakfast some time and if that is also a 3, I will be done with Black Bear Diner.

Steak was undercooked, then overcooked. Re-cook took forever, finally asked for manager to change to 2 egg breakfast so I could leave. Manager did this, & came back to say steak was done, if I wanted to take it home, he would not charge me. I appreciate him trying to make it right, but it was not a good 1st experience or impression.
