This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it’s one of the things he’s done for me. The Black Bear is far and above superior to many places we all have been to. First and foremost the food... so well put together and flavorful , I had the beef brisket, smoke ring and all , my wife had the tri tip, oh man was it good so tender and tasty, second the service was incredible... they employ many to serve the diners. Having been to other locations while traveling, I was excited to have a Black Bear Diner come to the San Diego area! I actually went to the El Cajon location two days in a row, 05/11/19 & 05/12/19. 05/11/19 - Came for lunch, party of 2. Food took almost an hour to arrive. Service was great. Server apologized several times for the long wait. Food finally came and it was excellent. I enjoyed my visit yesterday, for the most part . I was looking forward to trout. The menu online made it sound really good. However, your Elcajon location does not sell trout. I had the meatloaf but I was really disappointed. Few places in El Cajon offer fresh trout.
