Al Nelson founded North Park Rug and Carpet Co. in 1950 during the post-war heydays of San Diego. Gene Stevenson drove from Minnesota to work for Al in 1959. He enjoyed the work—and North Park—so much that he bought the business from Al in 1975. He worked there alongside his wife Jan as it continued to flourish as a family owned and operated rug and carpet business until his retirement in 1995.
