I contacted Takacs McGinnis to make some simple changes to an existing trust document. When I received the initial information worksheet I was a bit put off by the depth of the questions (health status, medications, income), but I filled in as much information as I was comfortable with. Our hour-long initial consultation was primarily about options that did not apply to our situation (our income was misread and not verified until near the end of the hour. Then we were expected to pay a flat fee of $2000.00 for this firm to represent us for a year, which we did not need or want. So basically, I misunderstood the focus of this firm and they misunderstood our income figures. I paid the $350.00 initial consultation fee but felt that since there was a major miscommunication by both parties that they should have at least split that fee with us.

The specialists at Takacs McGinnis have provided us with an excellent experience. We worked with attorneys, social workers, and Medicaid specialists during the past year who walked with us step by step successfully through the process of eligibility. They were always available to answer my many questions and patiently listen and explain. They even follow up to check on us to see if we need anything. Bottom line: I am able to care for my disabled son in our home while being financially secure at the same time. I already have recommended them many times and will continue to do so. In May 2019, life as my parents knew it drastically changed. My dad's declining health impacted our ability to care for him at home. Mom and Dad had prepared for this day by having wills and power of attorney in place. They neither expected nor prepared for out of home care. By September 2019, we were struggling to find ways to pay for my dad's care without losing everything he had worked so hard to build. I contacted a friend who recommended I research elder care attorneys. I contacted an elder care attorney in Dover, Tennessee who candidly admitted her practice specialized in estate planning and immediately referred the Takacs McGinnis firm stating our family's situation was in crisis mode and needed the professionals who best handled Crisis Care Planning. During a telephone conference, we were introduced to Barbara Takacs-McGinnis (elder care attorney); Pati Bedwell (elder care protection planning); Joshua Bey (Public Benefits Specialist - Medicaid); Joshua Hunter (Public Benefits Specialist - Medicare); and Jennifer Berkon (paralegal). In one phone call, an immediate burden was lifted. My parents and I were no longer blindly navigating through the unknown, because we now had a whole team of specialists working with us. Barbara and her team immediately strategized a plan with each team member assigned a part. Within two months the team ensured my dad's placement in a facility which provides the best care for this stage of his life and relieved my family of an immense and overwhelming burden of how to singly accomplish this. Highly recommended! I have had a 10 year+ relationship with this practice. They have all seen me through some ruff times as my Mom declined from Dementia. I appreciate each and everyone of these professionals.

Takacs McGinnis has been a Godsend for me. I initially contacted them in 2012 when my father had Alzheimer's Disease. They worked with us to protect my parents' assets and guided me through the estate settlement process when he died. They were instrumental in applying for and receiving VA surviving spouse benefits and Medicaid benefits for my mother, who also had Alzheimer's Disease. Once again, they were there for me when she died.
Most recently I was urgently trying to plan for my husband after he developed cancer and kidney failure. With their assistance I was able to take care of all the legal paperwork quickly so that I could spend time with my husband during his last days.
If you have read all of this, the only thing I can stress is how much easier it was to cope with everything because of the caring and competence of this law firm. I don't normally write reviews, but I feel so strongly about Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law that I had to voice my confidence in them. Engaging them to help with estate planning is one decision you will never regret.

I was referred to Takacs McGinnis when my wife was diagnosed with an illness that required her to enter long-term care which necessitated filing for TNCare coverage. The Takacs McGinnis team assigned to my case went thoroughly through the application process with me and handled the application for benefits. The team was highly professional and proficient, and communicated with me throughout the process. Additionally, the team handled all of the estate planning and filings for me and my wife. When my wife passed away, the team was very thoughtful and followed up to ensure that my needs were met. I highly recommend the staff and services at Takacs McGinnis.
