I have a late 2013,Toyota Yaris Hatchback YRX, and I fully agree with “No car is perfect but this model come close”, 24th Aug, 2014. The GPS, navigation, SD card system is not worth the money. The GPS has a problem were the school crossing cannot not be disabled, yet there is a menu to allow you to disable them. You get up to 8 crossing in one area and some where there is not a school crossing at all. Toyota knows of the problem but cannot fix it. My company's Yaris is a 2006 with around 178,000 on the clock. Apparently it has suffered a MAF (Mass Air Flow) malfunction. I am told by Maddils Toyota of Noosaville Quensland that the replacement cost of the MAF unit will be around $450.00 and that it will take about 1.5 hours (labour time) to replace it. I previously owned a manual 2006 yaris which I was very happy with. The new 2012 Yaris is poorly built and poorly executed. The main problem with my Auto model is that at speeds of over 90km/hr a high pitch ringing noise is emitted from the engine. This noise is constant and is like the ringing in your ears after you hear a loud concert. A good easy zippy car. Head office let them down, but otherwise I really love my car. Added rear sensors, that is missing. Gorgeous to look at and fuel efficient. Very easy handling. Lovely comfortable seats and very roomy on the inside, for a small car. Boot space looks smal but fits a fair bit. bad choice of colours when I bought it so had to stick with white. The head office were compltely obnoxious and rude when I had a question. As I don't reward companies with poor customer service, the next one will be a Mazda!
Great little car- to many included options- would like to choose to include or save the extra money. Too expensive to service- don't dare take it to anyone other than th dealer because it's got more than a few bits and bobs even they were puzzled about. Their mechanics may have needed to get a bit more updated training. The price is right/ features are impressive- ABS/ power windows/ air- all standard for zilch. Lots of people here seem to love this car, so maybe I just had a bad experience, but I found the Yaris aweful to drive. We were pretty much sold on getting this car until we actually drove it and felt sick afterwards. Maybe this was because we're quite tall, so the angle of the windscreen seemed to distort things. This was the same both as a passenger and the driver. I've never had this trouble in any other car. The car i drove had a lot of noise come through the cabin, so that is something that needs to be worked on. Its also rather cramped on the inside (the seats feel too small even for an average sized person like myself). Considering it has a 1.5L engine i was suprised at how bad the fuel economy was even on the long country drive i took. The cabin is dull, boring and counterintuitive. We have two new Yaris's at work. It is impossible to drive either of them at a constant speed - both of them either accelerate or decellerate, there is no balance point where you can maintain a constant speed. The steering is vague, and I wouldn't want to be in an accident in one - there's very little to protect you. I can't understand why anyone would buy one of these voluntarily. Quiet, reasonably comfortable, fuel efficient. Under-powered engine in auto transmission is almost dangerous. Sound system is dreadful.
