Drivers for Choosing Birdeye
Relationships are core to how Timpson does business, and the way Birdeye and its team worked – consultative, hands-on and clear about what implementation would actually look like – mattered as much as the platform itself.
What sealed the decision were the specific tools Birdeye demonstrated during the sales process: a single platform that could handle listings, reviews and benchmarking at enterprise scale, with the clarity senior stakeholders needed to commit to a multi-thousand-location migration.
Birdeye also fit Timpson’s wider technology test. Every new tool the business adopts has to clear one of two bars: does it make life better for customers, or does it make life better for colleagues? Birdeye cleared both: better discovery for the customer searching on the high street, and clearer, more usable data for the teams managing each location.
The Solution
Timpson uses Birdeye to bring listings, reviews and insights into one connected platform, and to turn local visibility into a clear metric teams across the estate can see, compare and act on.
Unified Listings Management
Birdeye keeps Timpson’s location data accurate and consistent across every channel customers use (Google, AI search platforms and beyond) so that more than 6,000 shops, vending locations and self-service points surface reliably in “near me” results.
Centralised Reviews Management
Reviews feed the local SEO flywheel: stronger visibility brings more customers in, while better review performance helps each location continue to climb. Birdeye gives Timpson a single place to monitor, respond to and learn from customer feedback across the estate, with AI-enabled tools that scale to thousands of locations without losing the human voice in each response.
Insights AI for actionable performance data
Insights AI brings together the metrics that matter most to Timpson: how many people see each listing, how many actions are taken on those listings, and how those actions translate into sales. Listings visibility, customer actions and commercial performance can now be analysed side by side across brands, regions and individual locations.
Birdeye Score for cross-location benchmarking and gamification
Timpson uses Birdeye Score to turn reputation and visibility data into a single, comparable benchmark for every location. That number powers internal gamification, recognising and rewarding the locations that are performing best, and giving every team a clear picture of where to focus next. For a group where operational efficiency matters across thousands of sites, that visibility is genuinely transformative.
Implementation
Migrating thousands of locations from a legacy provider was always going to be the biggest commercial risk in the move to Birdeye. Any disruption to listings during the transition would mean lost search visibility, missed customers and lost sales. Birdeye walked Timpson through the migration plan in detail before any data moved, gave senior stakeholders the confidence to commit, and the platform went live without disrupting day-to-day trading.
The rollout was phased to move the estate across in manageable stages. Phase 1 went live within 4 weeks, covering 2,000+ retail locations. Phase 2 followed the next month, bringing the remaining 3,800+ vending and self-service locations onto the platform.
Alongside the migration, QR codes were created and distributed across the physical estate. They gave customers a direct route from the shop floor or the machine in front of them to leaving a review, which increased the average review volume by around 1,000 within the first month.
Internally, the bigger challenge was cultural. Building buy-in from senior stakeholders meant demonstrating, concretely, how better digital visibility would help colleagues, improve customer experience and contribute to commercial performance. That work has done more than enable a software rollout, it has helped establish modern location management, reviews and AI-enabled tools as essential to how Timpson stays competitive.
