Big problem with ATFCU on Saturday, 6/3/2012. They rolled out this secondary password requirement thing (a second password requiring 10 separate digits). This is in addition to the account number and a long primary password. Trouble is if you stumble at all in trying to set up the secondary password your account is then BLOCKED. This happened to me on a Saturday when I had an hour available to perform due diligence on my checking account activity. Having your account blocked means what? I bet it means I'll have to go t... read more

When you sign up, they run your credit with a "Hard" inquiry which depreciates your credit score without telling you. I guess it's somewhere in the "fine print." Shady bank with low teaser rates, but getting the loans is a lot harder than with other credit unions. Also the tellers/banksters are trained like used car salesmen. It's like walking into a car dealership with them pushing their shady products on you. No thanks Austin Telco.

Business response:

We understand that your past experience was not what you wanted it to be. While we are not always able to approve every loan application, we apologize if you felt any part of the process was shady. We welcome the opportunity to visit with members about a loan decision and identify ways to assist with future needs. Thank you for your feedback we would the opportunity to earn back your trust.

Watch out - two negative reviews have been removed. Ranking is skewed upwards as a result. There was a huge hassle about depositing (not withdrawing) a check from another credit union because I hadn't gotten a copy of the check author's drivers license! I've never had to have the drivers license of another person to make a deposit. They could have verified the check's authenticity by calling the other credit union; instead, they called me to come pick up the check and come back with a copy of the other person's drivers... read more

ATFCU makes me never want to bank with another credit union in my life. Reasons why: 1. Their hours are freaking ridiculous. The only people who can bank between 9am and 4pm during the week DO NOT HAVE JOBS. I banked here for about 6 months and probably made it to the lobby before they closed TWICE. Most of the branch lobbies are not even on the weekends, which means I have to do my banking on my lunch break. 2. The locations are just as bad as the hours. No wonder I can't make it there in time, I have to drive 30 m... read more

Pretty good rates. However, the staff seems to be becoming more and more unfriendly and stern on the phone and in person at the Brodie branch. It's not just me either, I saw them be like that with the friendliest elderly customer in front of me in line....makes me think twice about doing business with these folks.

Business response:

We do value bringing our members great rates but even more so the friendly service we want for all our members. We've grown and improved over the years and train so incidents like these don't occur. Thank you for your feedback at the time and we welcome the opportunity to visit on the benefits of membership.

I am writing this review because I joined Austin Telco after looking at the glowing reviews on this site and am very sorry that I did. I joined a credit union from Bank of America because I figured a credit union would treat you more like a person and wouldn't nickel dime you to death. Boy was I wrong. Here are some of the ways in which Austin Telco will nickel dime you. 1. You have to pay the few dollars for your Check Card instead of it being free like every other bank out there. 2. You have to pay for your firs... read more

I tried Bank of America. I did, honestly! The fees, the unwillingness to help you out in an emergency, the rude tellers...oi! There were a couple of guys at work who had Austin Telco and raved about it. I started banking there and raved about it. Soon, about ten people at our company were banking at Austin Telco. The fee's are reasonable, they know you by name, you can reason with someone who has the power to make acceptions to policy and they are polite and kind. Which, I am sad to say, is something I cannot say for corpo... read more
