In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. I have to say I rarely leave reviews on restaurants however our serves Scott was exceptional and deserves some recognition. Not only was our food exceptional Scott really is such a kind and over extending waiter that you rarely encounter these days. He was attentive, kind, thorough and very nice to have. We need more servers like Scott. Black Bear Diner is lucky to have him!

Had an early burger and fries last night at BBD in Ventura. We were surprised at the quality of the California burger! Really tasty! Our waiter (Scott) was attentive of our needs from beginning to the end. The place was quite and clean, we will be back for more. AAA

Scott was a great server! Really enjoyed the ScramBowl! So yummy...and huge! I asked for a box right away because it's so much food! If I paid for one meal, but that ScramBowl will be 3 meals for me so I don't have to cook for a couple of days - awesome!

Yesterday we had our Essay Awards Breakfast for 50 guests at Black Bear Diner in Ventura. The atmosphere was perfect and the food was delicious. We had a breakfast buffet and I heard numerous compliments about the pancakes and scrambled eggs especially. We would highly recommend this site for a group event as the staff was outstanding, making sure that our event was a success. Our Optimist Club meets at Black Bear Diner in Ventura each month to honor a local middle school student as our Student of the Month. The Black Bear Diner staff are wonderful to let us use one of their large group rooms as we always have twenty plus in attendance. The service and food are always great. This morning I attended an awards banquet in their larger group room where we honored six essay contest winners and their families. Must have been about sixty in attendance.
