Callen's is worth the drive for wonderful homemade-style, comfort food brunch. Today, we tried their 3 course brunch with a plate of fruit with yogurt dipping sauce (forgot to take a pic), a cinnamon roll, and then a choice of breakfast. They were down a host and only had one server on our Thursday morning visit but she did amazing! Trin H gave excellent recommendations and split our entree without us asking. She also suggested we get a double Bloody Mary as well for our breakfast when we asked about it. Service was quick despite being shorthanded, she was extremely nice and very efficient with keeping the dining room clean and communicating with guests.
Way more substantial a restaurant than what you might expect for a place perfectly located across from the ferry terminal. This is not a “churn n and turn em” place with mediocre food. Instead the food is excellent and the service very friendly. Clearly they take a great deal of pride in the quality of the ingredients and presentation. We waited for a table on the side deck. Several staff members checked on us, offering water and menus while we waited. We enjoyed a tasty meal and the view from the deck
Service was very slow. The waitress was very polite and friendly, but the management of the back of the house is lacking. Food was stacking up in the service window and no one seemed to know what to do. Had to ask for my food to go after waiting almost 45 minutes to get it ( same food sitting in the service window). When I did get it, my fish and chips were soggy. I ordered 2 pieces of the fish and chips. The 2 pieces were 1 small piece cut in half. Place was busy, but had a 3rd of the tables empty.
