Very caring, Christian man. Was willing to spend time to explain the lung surgery in detail and answer all questions. When our sons came to visit the weekend after surgery, Dr. Derrick answered the questions they did not have on the day of surgery. Made many visits to the hospital room before and after the surgery. When a return trip to the ER became necessary because of pain and fever, Dr. Derrick had many contacts with the ER doctor. Dr.Derrick gave us hope!! Before we saw him my husband had signed a DNR, because we were told their was not a lot they could do for him, that would help him much. Dr. Derrick told us the front part of his heart was good and would do a by-pass, put in a lead for a pace maker in case he needed that. He told us there was very good chance for my husband to do well during the surgery. He took the time with us and explained very clearly was he was going to do. He answered all our questions. Dr. Derrick is an excellent surgeron. I work as an ICU nurse in hospital he works at. He is very good with his patients and explains information to them at a level they can understand. His patients recover well after surgeries. He is very pleasant to work with and is a good teacher to the nurses. I would happily let him operate on myself of anyone in my family. I would highly recommend him to anyone for surgery.
