My Father has been in the emergency room at Mercy several times in the last 12 months due to cardio and back issues. The majority of the RN’s could not speak fluent English which made communicating very important health issues a big problem. Several times important medication dosage and intervals were not charted correctly or at all. If myself and other family members had not been there 24 hrs to correct the staff on these errors terrible things would have happened. My Step father has been in the emergency room since Friday (6-18-26) and it is now Sunday (6-21-26). He is 93 years old. I called to speak with someone and they told me that he is in a room but in a room in the emergency department. If he is still in emergency he doesn't have a room 🤔🤬maybe I should talk to the news media about how poor the care is for people who visit this hospital. Downtown Des Moines Mercy. Wait times are longer than anywhere i've ever seen in the country. I've been there three different times with family members in the last 2 years. One family member had a stroke and lost Most of their vision, and it took 13 hours to get them into a room.. Another family member had a severe reaction and was in the hospital emergency room Hallway for 2 days by the front desk. They treat their patients like crap we witness a gentleman come in after a car accident clearly in pain and could barely walk the only thing they would do for him was tell him he needs to go home and take some Tylenol and follow up with primary care doctor. Do better you should be ashamed of your selfs!
Horrible. Brought husband in with heat stroke symptoms and waited 5.5 hours for a room. Another 1.5 hours to see a doctor. Then another 2 to be checked out!! Due to the delay he has been suffering for nearly seven days from heat related dizziness. Also this hospital is filthy. Dirty gloves and gauze on floor in room. Additionally I’m not sure the triage nurse assigns acuity level correctly.
