Dana, in pre-op waiting was the most compassionate human being I've ever met. My husband was cared for incredibly well. We were called the day before and asked to arrive at 11am- we waited a while due to surgeries being behind. My husband was taken back to prep for surgery at 12:15pm, I was brought in around 1pm. Surgeries were behind, but Mrs. Dana, RN, kept us informed and kept my husband comfortable. He was given a "cocktail" but it wore off before they could get him back, again, surgeries were behind. I had my hip replaced here 2 days ago. My surgeon Dr. Rhett Hallows is top notch. He did a great job and his team are all incredible. The nurses who cared for me are all awesome! I felt very cared about and the nurses were all very attentive to me. The PT lady Sue was great. The food at the hospital is absolutely delicious also! No complaints at all. Thank you all for everything!

Had spinal surgery at NCSH yesterday and the experience was a superlative. Staff was exceptional, responsive and caring. Dr.Madsen corrected a previous spinal surgery done in another state and then some. The results were all I wished for, his skill and demeanor providing relief and great assurance. The hospital accommodations were excellent and the food prepared from scratch and was delicious.

While the surgeons themselves and the staff in the pre-op, OR, and post-op do a great job, the billing department leaves so much to be desired that it has made seriously evaluate whether I would ever have another procedure at this facility. My son had surgery there on 5/14/25 and my claim was quickly paid by BCBSNC. That said, the night before surgery I received a call suggesting I pay over $5K at the time of check in, but the surgery could be performed if I paid a minimum of $2900 and some change. I recently had surgery at North Carolina Specialty Hospital, and I cannot say enough positive things about my experience. From the moment I walked through the doors, every staff member I encountered was incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They made what could have been a stressful situation so much more manageable—and even pleasant.
