Would not recommend this place at all. I attended the grief retreat-mending heart wounds last year after a family member died. I found the "activities" juvenile and didn't evoke any significant change or healing. While some staff were skilled, I got yelled at in the lunchroom for talking in a normal tone. If you go in the winter, despite it being hot out, the pool will be closed. The place is not luxurious. The only positive thing is that if you want to lose weight, the food is healthy enough. I’ve gone back and forth about writing this review, but I feel it’s important to share my experience with Survivors Week for anyone considering it. If your trauma is lighter or you’re just starting to explore healing, this program might feel supportive. But if you’re carrying significant trauma, I’d advise caution. Some of the advertised activities didn’t happen during my stay. Acupuncture was listed, but the acupuncturist was absent, and I later learned it only involves ear points when available. I found my experience at Rio retreat to be extremely powerful. I have worked in this field and a number of the educational concepts were known to me already. Nonetheless when I did the experiential work it was powerful and transformative. Just a couple days later I continue to find new insights and connections with the childhood issues that I need help addressing. The staff was remarkably insightful and gifted. My experience at Rio was life-changing and empowering. I feel secure and ready to face parts of life that have always been challenging and overwhelming for me. The program is top-notch, and I will definitely be going back someday.
