Having spent nearly a year of trying to move house and all the stresses, trials and tribulations involved I hoped that the storage was going to be easier. It was! Very disappointing experience with Shurgard. They do not mention anywhere that you are required to pay an extra £18/month for mandatory insurance until the moment you sign the contract — a classic hidden fee. On top of that, they keep pressuring you to leave 5-star ratings on Google Maps and Trustpilot, which feels unprofessional and borderline harassment. I would give 5 stars to the staff but our experience from the company was not so good. We were satisfied existing customers of Lok’n’Store when it was taken over last year by Shurgard. First few months were seamless. Then we received invoice with extra charge for Shurgard insurance. Apparently we had an email saying we should have signed another form to declare we had our own - even though we had signed previously. Wayne and his staff were able to resolve the issues I had in a timely and respectful manner. I find that some companies stop trying once they know a customer is leaving but Wayne did his best so we would leave satisfied with their customer service.
This would have been a five star review however the way they operate is nothing short of a con, there is an apparent 15 day period in which you must notify them for cancellation of the contract, this is buried halfway down in the the small print and not mentioned at ANY point over the phone and when I purchased I only requested a month's worth of storage, if you can book and be in within a day as a new customer why do you need to notify two weeks beforehand?
