Mikey was my surfing instructor for an hour! From 12:45 to 1 we booted up and he taught me some land lessons on the sand. Mikey picked me out a 9 ft board (I'm 4'11 and 112 lbs) which I thought was quite large but he explained to me that most instructors actually end up pairing you with a board too large (a standard for a sort of one size fits all which obviously does not fit all). Velina is awesome. I try to take a lesson with her whenever I am in Waikiki. Their prices are very competitive and Yogi is super helpful trying to get you the right size board. They are all very friendly and helpful. Great experience. I highly recommend surfing with Star Beachboys!
We had the best experience! Velina was such a great instructor and made sure we were all safe the entire time. She helped my 10 year old daughter paddle out and she caught 5 waves and stood up on her 2nd try. My 14yo son was able to stand up and ride 4 waves. My wife and I caught a couple waves and watched her with the kids the rest of the time. I cannot recommend this place enough. Our experience with Star Beachboys was absolutely incredible! David, Mikey, and Todd were exceptional instructors and made our surf lesson one of the highlights of our Hawaii vacation. They were friendly, patient, and encouraging from the moment we arrived. Their instructions were easy to understand, and they took the time to make sure everyone felt safe and confident in the water. Great staff, great price and nice flexibility for my family. This was our first surf lesson and we all made it in the first several tries. It was great and fun. Uncle Mikey is an experienced and helpful coach. He also gave us some flexible time for practice after the class. One class is not enough, I will definitely come back to rent and practice more. So much fun.
