I recently (October, 2025) had hip replacement surgery conducted by Dr. Alexander McLawhorn, MD at HSS with great success. Within a mere 6 weeks post op, I was essentially pain free while walking and getting in and out of an automobile. I am now following up with outpatient physical therapy. Dr. McLawhorn replaced my first hip in 2021, when I was 78. I recently returned to him when my other hip became "bone on bone" at age 82. Both procedures were done from the anterior, and both were successful: I have no residual pain or limitation of movement, and walk with no change in my gait. I have been to several orthopedic surgeons in the hopes of finding the right one; Dr. McLawhorn stands out via his great listening, general concern for what you have to say, not rushing you nor making you wait. The process for my hip replacement could not have been smoother nor more efficient. He provides an arsenal of information to learn from and rely on. I am very grateful to have found Dr McLawhorn. I am back on track in under 5 weeks and just beyond grateful to this soft spoken, patient and very responsive surgeon.
Dr McLawhorn is someone you instantly realize when you meet him that today is your lucky day . He makes you feel very confident you will be ok and removes all of the concerns you have on “will it work”. He is truly the best in what he does !

Dr. McLawhorn is the best! I had hip replacement a year ago and my hip feels perfect! Not only did he do a wonderful job with the surgery, his step-by-step recovery instructions were right on point and key to my recovery. When I meet with him for follow up visits, he is attentive and thoughtful. I have complete trust in him and feel lucky to have found him.
Dr McLawhorn and his team are true professionals. He did a right leg TKR and 6 weeks later I’m feeling great and looking forward to resuming my full activity level soon. This was my 3rd joint replacement (2nd knee) and the best total experience yet (to the extent a TKR can be called a good experience). I have had 2 orthopedic surgeries performed under the skilled guidance of Dr McLawhorn -- Hip Revision and Knee replacement. In each case I was fully informed by Dr McLawhorn about what the surgeries entailed and his plans. He is also extremely thorough in preparing you for your recovery. I have my left hip replacement surgery 6 weeks ago with Dr. McLawhorn. From the time I came to see him all my fears were eased by his compassionate, kind and caring demeanor. Having the procedure performed by a highly skilled surgeon was truly wonderful. It was amazing that I experienced no pain and I could walk immediately after the surgery.
