Eat local, drink local, Ballston Local Ballston Local is a new addition to the Ballston area of Glebe Road, and a welcome one. With a firm neighborhood pub vibe, imaginative and generous food selections, and a beer selection that is neither too much or too little, they appear to have struck all the right notes on all fronts. With an adaptable but minimalist decor, their dining room easily reconfigures from sportsbar mode to private dinner mode, to bistro mode. The menu is heavy with NY style pizzas, including perennial favorites like 4-cheese and meat lovers, but also imaginative selections like chicken parm and clam pizzas. The burgers are generous and finished with quality cheeses and carmelized onions, the "skinny" and waffle fries are nicely seasoned. We will definitely return to sample more of the menu options.

A Taste of My Childhood Ballston Local is a new restaurant in the Ballston neighborhood. The co-owner, Jonah, described it as a place where patrons would come weekly for comfort food. Well, they hit the mark. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and Saturday night was always cheesesteaks and pizza night. So, when my wife and I went to Ballston local for our first meal, I had to order the Philly Cheesesteak and she (a NY native) ordered their Brooklyn-style pizza. The cheesesteak was authentic with Cheez-Wiz as the topping and banana peppers. The pizza had a thin and rigid crust that allowed you to easily fold it in half, just the way a NY pizza should be eaten. Our server had a spunky, fun attitude. After asking what kind of fries I wanted with my steak, he paused and warned me that there was a correct answer. I sweated that for a few moments before responding with "waffle." Which he assured me was the right answer. Not only does Ballston Local have wonderful (and not particularly healthy) comfort food. It also had a really wonderful salad. So for those that do not want to indulge, there are alternatives. The co-owner, Jonah, was working the front of the house and was clearly paying attention to every aspect of the customer experience. Bottom line...This will be a great neighborhood restaurant.
