To update: After looking at all the emails, Kirsten knew she was leaving "for a new job" at the end of the month. She insisted that we pay the extra $3k to bring our retainer up to cost, even though the bills were consistently paid in full. Probably the worst decision I have ever made when hiring a lawyer. Cordell and Cordell are terrible, they could care less about the client. I spent over $19,000 and 8 months just to try and settle a custody suit but between the many many corrections that I had to made to there work, and the hours of pointless meetings and phone calls to remind them what I wanted them to do, I ended up firing them and hiring a new lawyer. I used Cordell & Cordell for my divorce & custody case. They have good advertising and they have professionally developed folders, handouts, etc. The pros are that you're going to a firm that is focused solely on divorce-related issues. Cons are several, the most important can't be stressed enough: THEY'RE A FRANCHISE, and franchises are always geared towards earning more money. After 5 months of working with Bennita Bullet, she didn't even know my daughter's name. My initial motion to file for contempt of court against my ex wife has still not been heard by a judge and thousands of dollars later, my situation has not improved at all. Not a law firm to be counted on!! Following a failed mediation with the ex to settle on the house, I hired Cordell to defend me in court on the date scheduled. I clearly described the case and provided all background information. Two days before the court date Cordell sends me invoice for the full amount we agreed at the time of retainer, and then demands another $18k to get me through court!! I only gave them one star because you have to give at least one star. I felt nickel and dimed at every turn. They were stereotypical take advantage of the client because you can type company. Never ever use them if you can avoid them. Run don't walk if they are ever suggested as far away as possible.
I was given the run around. They knew a had an upcoming court date and took my money. Then they changing the attorney initially assigned to me because she was no longer 'available.' I was then told they would not be able to represent me because there wasn't an attorney available on my court date and steered me to another law firm.
