Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. My son has gone here for 3 years; first in a 50/50 English/Chinese environment, then in a Chinese immersion environment. We're very happy with the teachers he's had, with the friends he's made, with the extended hours of the school, etc. At first we didn't think he was learning much Chinese, but then his grandma came to live with us from China, and we realized he was just shy, and he could actually speak Chinese very well. Overall, great school, happy with his progress in En... read more
Both of my sons attend IMA. My oldest, who is 3 years-old now, has learned so many things from the toddler and now the primary program. I love the Montessori teachings. They take the time to explain the teachings to parents in weekly newsletter so we understand why over praising children can cause praise junkies, can steal their pleasure, and reduce their interests, because now children are not learning for the sake of learning but for the sake of seeking approval from parents. So when the kid turns 16 and doesn't care ... read more
Our family was interested in Montessori as a method of teaching but really wanted to have our daughters learn Mandarin so we were excited to find IMA. Our older daughter has attended IMA since Fall 2016 in the mandarin immersion class and our younger daughter just started attending this year in the toddler class. Our older daughter loves going to school each day and especially loves her afternoon class. Our daughter stopped napping at 3 years old so it is nice that she has the option to go to an afternoon class and is contin... read more
We have been at the IMA for over two years now. I have visit other immersion Chinese school and have not feel welcome or comfortable when visiting them. At the IMA, the families and staff are diverse and welcoming. My son has learn to be independent, he can play for alone, he is a curious child, and can understand and speak Chinese. I really like the Montessori school style. He really benefits from having younger and older child learn and play together. The teachers are very nice also.
My daughter who is 5 now started here last November and we are extremely happy that we made the move. We had her at another preschool down the road and it was like pulling teeth trying to get her to wake up and be excited to go to the previous preschool. My daugher is very articulate and would complain that the girls were not nice..very clicky..and would exclude her..(yes for girls it does start young!) My question was..why were the teachers letting this happen?! Did they not see this? Since we moved to International Mo... read more
our son has been attending IMA since its Allen St location opened in 2013. We are so impressed with the caring, patient and loving environment our son gets to learn in everyday. He started at 2.5 yrs in their toddler program and quickly entered their Chinese class he was in the Chinese class for 1.5 years and the bilingual class for the passed school year and his language development is pretty amazing. He loves coming home and teaching us Chinese songs and words. We are very pleased to be continuing our son's Montessori edu... read more
My granddaughter spent 2 years at IMA. We loved the Montessori aspect--she became even more independent plus she learned Chinese. The teachers and staff are caring and accommodating. If you are interested in having your child/children exposed to diversity-this is the place. They are plenty of different languages and cultures celebrated. Our only negative concerns their accounting dept.--my daughter had several issues with tuition payments and amounts dues. Other than that --we would highly recommend IMA.
Both of my girls go to international Montessori academy (ages 3 and 5.5). This is an intimate learning environment for my kids where the teachers and staff are always caring and flexible. I came upon this school when my older daughter was struggling in another Japanese language pre-school that was not Montessori. She had started in a Montessori classroom prior to that but we really wanted her to get more exposure to the Japanese language. It was a double win that IMA also offered a Chinese classroom. We chose this scho... read more
International Montessori Academy is incredible! We started sending my 18 month old son there in September of 2014 and we couldn't be happier. Everyone is incredibly friendly, and it's clear my son's teachers love children! They treat all the kids with so much kindness and respect. My son's development has skyrocketed. They teach the children all sorts of skills, from putting their own shoes and jackets on to clearing the table after lunch. He's also learned to count as well as to plant seeds and tend a garden. The kids... read more
