My "old" softner was not that old. Maybe 4 years old. Have a white substance in my water which really shows up in my black commode. Salesman told me that this new softner would eliminate that. Well, it hasn't! I haven't contacted the company yet, but they promised that this new softner would eliminate that or they would put my old softner back in and give me a refund. We'll see what they do and I will update this review. I will say that they did do a beautiful installation.
