Lisa Andrews – An Angel disguised as a Lender, and why it matters
I can’t recommend Lisa Andrews highly enough. For anyone reading this who’s new to the home-buying process (or hasn’t done it since 2008, when laws changed), prepare yourself: you are about to enter into a lengthy rollercoaster ride. And unless you already have all your funds in one, easily-tracked account, you will NEED a kind, experienced, dependable professional to help you thru it. Enter Lisa!
Going into this process, I felt that Lenders abound and after all, don’t they all just basically do the same thing? Why would a “good” lender matter? We’d done the hard part – we’d found the perfect house and gotten pre-approved, so all that was left was to wrap it up, right? HA.
When Lisa originally spelled out the process and all the financial requirements, I thought, “I got this- Easy-Peasy.” However, (for us, anyway), the process soon started to feel akin to oral surgery. You see, these days all funds used to buy a home need to be traceable. That means that the “pots” of money we had been saving here & there in various accounts over the years couldn’t just be consolidated, they had to be consolidated and EXPLAINED to the Funder. Every cent. So it will feel like there’s somebody mucking about in your personal business, and if you want that house you’re strapped in for the duration.
Lisa made the process bearable (and in hindsight, it wasn’t quite as bad as oral surgery). Overall, she wears many hats and is an excellent Communicator. Importantly, she speaks “Human”, explaining the how’s and why’s. She was readily available late at night, early in the morning, and anytime in between based around our work schedules. As needed, she was a relentless coach, spelling out exactly what was needed next and (gently) prodding us along. Alternately, when things started to feel overwhelming, she was a dedicated cheerleader and “hand-holder”. And – most unexpectedly – she was our personal champion and went the extra mile in somehow managing to lock in a rate that we thought was no longer attainable.
In short, Lisa is the ultimate, professional liaison between the home purchaser and the funder. In retrospect, it’s not so much that we feel fortunate to have chosen her… It’s more like we were lucky that SHE chose to work with US!
