I came in last week with a group of friends and sat at the bar upstairs. First of all, Ive been here many times before and I loved the food ..the service lately has seemed to be off ,but this time it was absolutely HORRIBLE and it seems that our server Mitch or Mike was more interested in drinking behind the bar than actually providing decent service to paying customers. We waited for over 10 minutes before we were even greeted, and when he took our order he didn't even come back to us until he asked if we wanted the bill. VERY disappointed with service. Do NOT go here unless you don't mind rude, patronizing attitude from servers. This was our second time visiting Local as a large group and both times we've had terrible experiences. The first time we went, about 3 out of 9 people got their food and the rest got our food 30 min later and it also took them about an additional 20 minutes to get hot sauce and gravy. The restaurant wasn't too busy so it didn't make sense. We decided to give it another try yesterday. It turned out to be an even... read more

Hello Catherine, I am disappointed to hear that your experience was poor. I spoke to a member of your group yesterday over the phone. I want to thank you for providing feedback as it allows me to address it with my team and ensure it doesn't happen to again. I have offered a gift card and a reservation next week to get your team back in the building. If you can send a quick email to estewart@localpubliceatery.com as I would like to follow up further. Thank You, Evan Stewart General Manager
I really want to like this place, it has a cool vibe and when you read the menu, there are lots of tasty options.... for adults. However, I live close-by and have now been there a few times, and most of these times, I have left feeling disappointed. Firstly, this place is NOT kid friendly - at least not for small kids. Kids can only sit on the main floor (upstairs is 19 and over) and the majority of the tables are high-tops. I'm not going to sit a toddler at a high top, that's just not going to work. So, your only option fo... read more
When we first arrived, we sat ourselves and soon after ordered an appetizer stating that we will order our main after. The atmosphere was nice and our appetizer (pulled pork poutine) was decent, not amazing. We waited for the waitress to comeback to take our order or even see how we were doing as she was not the one to deliver our appetizer. We saw here walking about and at points just standing talking to her friends, which normally is not an issue but we were hungry and after 40 min we gave up trying to get her attention.... read more
The menu here is very hard as there are only a few good things on it such as Chopped salad and pressed burger. It generally takes 1 hour+ to get food. No kids menu but many things on the adult menu that kids enjoy as well. Kind waiters/waitresses. Full bar and 19+ dining upstairs. Overall I wouldn't recommend. 4/10.
Business response:
Hi Charlie, We would like to first apologize for your food taking that long. It isn't the standard. We would like for you to try us out again and take care of a beer for you and your table.
Went for a drink and app, sat on the ground patio, cold calamari, my hubby's $8 poutine was the smallest and saddest dish we've ever seen. He originally ordered the pulled pork poutine but several minutes later our sever came out and she said they are not serving this today um ok. His beer was fine, my easy white wine spritzer with lemon was turned into asking me if I want the one on the menu served with berries??!? No with lemon, of course my drink came out with no lemon ugh. The most concerning was the clearly over s... read more
Having lived in Leaside for about 23 years and then moving out of Toronto recently, my friend and I decided to visit the Local Eatery in January. I had passed by it a bunch of times but never went in, and my friend had been there one or two times and had enjoyed the atmosphere but had never taken in the food. So my friend and I arrived at around 7 pm; service was just ramping up, downstairs was packed, the upstairs was almost packed but there were some couches and recliners to sit on, which I thought was interesting. We we... read more
I've eaten here twice First time around I ordered the burger with blue cheese and found it pretty good . The fries that accompanied it were ice cold and they were remade right away. When piping hot they were very good. As the price of " gourmet" burgers in Toronto quietly creep into the $ 16.00 -$ 22.00 range I find this burger to be pretty expensive for the $ 16.50 price. Next time up was a recent Friday night around 9.30 pm and I went with a group of 5. The place wasn't busy and after we seated ourselves it took at le... read more
Slow service during brunch on Sunday but worst of all their freshly squeezed orange juice tasted like Tropicana.
