Good Entry Level MultiFunction Printer
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. SETUP: The printer comes fully assembled, it is simply a matter of removing the printer from the box, removing a few peices of tape, plugging in the power cable and then either plugging in Network, Telephone, and/or USB cables or setting up Wireless Network. I setup the Wireless connection through the printer using, this was simple and straight forward, with a minor bit of 90`s texting nostalgia entering the password.USE: This is where, for me, this printer fell down some. The printer is easy to use for printing or scanning, however because of the non-touch screen menus, doing anything from the printer is somewhat time consuming and archaic feeling. Once you know the prompts it`s easy enough to use without issues.PRINT QUALITY and SPEED: As you would expect from a laser printer, the print quality is crisp and sharp. Being a black only printer, the print speed is nice and fast. This does slow down some when printing large documents as the printer can only buffer so much, and apparently prints faster than Windows can send more data, so a few pages will print, it`ll pause for a minute, then print a few more pages. Page count between pauses will vary depending on graphics and density of print. This is as expected but worth noting.SCAN QUALITY and SPEED: This is honestly the achilles heel of this device. Scans are not smooth, 1/3 to 1/2 of the page will scan, the data sent to the computer, then another chunk scans, wash, rinse, repeat. The majority of the time the scan still comes out acceptably, please note this is not a professional scanner, the results aren`t bad but they aren`t professional. Occasionally the scan will come out with jagged edges where the scanning stopped briefly, maybe once in 200 scans.INCLUDED SOFTWARE: The software that comes with this printer, honestly is barely worth installing. If you`ve got an application that you prefer to scan through, just install the drivers for the device and be done with it. If you don`t have one, find one. With the included software you can only scan one page at a time, you cannot scan multiple pages from the software as a PDF. What is more frustrating is that this CAN be done from the device manually, and honestly easier once you`re used to the menus on the device. Over all, the software functions as it`s intended, and likely money was saved reducing the price of the device considerably.
