It's not a sports bar, but...
Since it opened in 2009, The Happ Inn Bar and Grill at 305 Happ Road in north suburban Northfield, at the southeast corner of Happ Road and Willow Road, west of I-94 at Willow Road, has emerged as a popular gathering place for postgame football fans from several North Shore high schools, including Loyola, New Trier, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Deerfield and Highland Park. Open from 11 to 8 Sunday through Wednesday and 11 to 9 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it is a busy, buzzy bar serving American pub and comfort food with a covered patio. My wife and I started with bowls of turkey chili with sour cream, onions, pasta and cheddar cheese and a Caesar salad with romaine lettuce, kale, croutons, parmesan and creamy Caesar dressing. For an entree, my wife chose Lake Superior whitefish with rice, grilled asparagus, red cabbage and cherry tomato salad in Champagne vinaigrette served with lemon butter sauce. I was tempted by the grilled jumbo shrimp but I couldn't pass up a 14-ounce grilled tomahawk pork chop with mashed potatoes and peppercorn sauce. For dessert, we were tempted by the key lime chocolate tart but finally decided to share large slices of Dutch apple pie and carrot cake. The Happ Inn isn't a sports bar by definition but it has all the trappings.

Unpretentious and Appealing American Specialties
It's fair to say the Happ Inn is the North Shore's foremost culinary comfort zone.
As soon as a guest enters the attractive but casual dining room, the restaurant's familiar charm feels like an old friend.
I ordered the Willow Road salad, which was exceptional. Topped off with an addition of medium rare tuna, the signature corn bread croutons, avocado vinaigrette and crumbled goat cheese made this a dish to remember.
For dessert, the chocolate chip cookie sundae is a surefire choice. (Always listen to the waitress when she recommends something--especially in this case.) The service here is prompt and friendly, making the Happ Inn a good option for those who still want time to watch a Cubs game after dinner. Prices are fairly reasonable considering the wealthy neighborhood surrounding the Inn.
I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, as the menu offers something great for every pallet. I will most certainly return.

Excellent food with a Mexican flair
My wife and I go to Happ Inn fairly regularly. Now that things are getting back to a semblance of normal, the dining room is open and pretty full of diners. my pistachio whitefish was very good, as was my wife's fish and chips. Portions are generous and service is great

Life is returning to normalcy-Happ Inn crowded
Everyone was ready to return to normalcy, and the a crowded Happ Inn was proof. We had to wait since we were walk-ins, but it was worth it. Great selection of wine and beer, and a menu that had something for everyone. The vegetarians ate well, as did the hungry, burger eating contingent. Despite staffing problems everywhere, the food came quickly, water glasses were kept filled, and our server checked up on us periodically.

One of our favorites on the North Shore
Have always enjoyed The Happ Inn, and have been impressed with what they've done during Covid. Huge tent in the parking lot allows protection from the elements and fresh air, and their food and beer options remain excellent.

Great tent to eat outside in their parking lot!
Thank you, Carlos, for all of your cooks, servers, hosts, etc. The food is always excellent here, the service is always outstanding....and it's even better with the outdoor tent where we can dine outside. The Sunshine Burger will always be my favorite!

Socially-distanced Delicious Dinner
It was so nice to go out for dinner again! We opted to eat inside instead of the outdoor tented area. We felt safe - socially-distant, masks and rigorous cleaning protocols in place. The food was delicious - flatbread appetizer and salmon, whitefish and skirt steak entrees. Service was exceptional! Thank you Happ Inn!

Established North Shore restaurant with good food, fun atmosphere, and lively bar area. Been coming here for many, many years. Favorites include skirt steak, chili, guacamole and salsa, salads and especially their southwest ranch dressing. The mashed potatoes were lacking in flavor last night. Cute birthday dessert for our teenage birthday girls and we enjoy their round tables or big booths.
