My mother moved to Verena a few months ago. She loves her apartment and appreciates the activities and shuttle service, but she has been deeply disappointed with the dinners. We were invited to have a meal before moving in, and were served a reasonably good lunch. It was a balanced meal with a well-prepared protein, potatoes and vegetables. We assumed that this was the norm. But once she moved in, she found the dinner service to be inconsistent, with low quality meats and poultry often poorly prepared or deep-fried, and vege... read more

Management is erratic. Communication is lacking. Chef is good. However I had a "memorable" Thanksgiving dinner The turkey came from a roll, which appeared frozen, string beans were "old" and watery and worst of all no potatoes AT ALL.!!! (interesting that mashed potatoes were on the menus the following 2 days!) The apple pie was totally frozen. I used my utensils to help me pound the pie . I just lost my appetite . I was very disappointed and hungry. I also observed that many people at Verena are depressed . Fo the past 4 mo... read more

I'm very disappointed with the meals. They have been of very poor quality . They don't take into consideration the age group of the people when planning the meals. The main dishes are not paired with vegetables and starches that make a healthy dinner ex. spaghetti with mashed potato.. In the ballroom, the chairs are very uncomfortable for anyone wanting to watch a show for any length of time for people with back problems (which are many of the people who live there). There has not been any good entertainment. Planning is poo... read more

I toured with Verena at Delray and it was scary, it looked so bad. They needed MAJOR renovations done, it was horrific. The staff were all super nice during the tour though.

The place is very nice . New facilities but the social aspect has a lot to be desired. If ur a man forget going to the activities. No one shows up! They have to cancel. The men that are there are cliquey, my father was introduced to them when he visited and they didn’t even talk to him when they ate. He tried to get a card game going, nobodyI responded. Sometimes someone will join him in the exercise room. I convinced him to move there as he was sitting in his house doing nothing. Here he does a little bit more than nothing.... read more

My family is unhappy with The Phoenix. My mother had a stroke the day I was moving her things into the apartment with movers. She had further setbacks in the hospital, and now and will need 24/7 care for the rest of her life. The Phoenix refuses to return the community fee, even though my mother never was able to live there, stating that it's nonrefundable. We offered to pay per diem for the days her belongings were there before movers could remove them. We've been told by the Regional Director of four local communities in o... read more

Pheonix of Delray stinks!

Living at the Pheonix of Delray is a nightmare! Run, Run, Run ! They are gutting the inside of the building and conducting demolition in vacant units. The noise is very stressful and having a very adverse effect on the health of the elderly residents. There are major security and exterior lighting issues. New people are moving in, and then moving right out. People are very unhappy living at the Pheonix! My intention for writing this review is to spare anyone from the grief and aggravation and misery of living here!
