The French Gourmet Bakery, founded by Mary & Patrice Remain, has been serving Houstonians for over 40 years. Established in 1973, their family business has remained a Houston icon for those who adore French & American style scrumptious cakes, cookies, pastries and breads. It all began five generations back when French-born Patrice’s parents began the baking tradition. Both his parents came from bakery families in the Loire Valley of France from the 1860’s.

I worked there and the owners and managers aren’t honest people. The breakfast items and bread are made fresh daily but the cakes are left in the cases for weeks. The French pastries are frozen & they treat their employees like peasants. Lauren and her mom sit up in the office eating lunch & complain if they have to get up and help. The poor kitchen staff is verbally abused by the Chef.
I bought the Easter Egg cake two years in a row for my birthday, and Im so sad that this year the actual cake was SUPER dry! The outside of it is so beautifully decorated, but man, i remember last year's easter egg cake being so delicious and this year it fell short. Did you all by chance change the recipe? Or was my cake just sitting out too long?
We use to come here a lot so I kept returning thinking I just caught them on a bad day but enough is enough. Spending money on cakes, pastries and bread that I end up throwing out is just stupid. Its too bad this place is under such poor management.and has gone down hill as much as it has.

Place is filthy and the employees are rude. Why is it ok for the guy behind the counter to check his phone while I'm trying to decide on my order? Their lunch is way overpriced. The chicken salad is runny and salty. The Caesar salad is just lettuce and dressing. The owners are rude and have no sense of customer service. One woman grunted, rolled her eyes when putting down her bags to wait on me, saying she needed to get upstairs lol Took home a palmier and bread. The palmier was stale and the bread had a huge hole in it. Was not happy I paid $5 for crust! I don't think they clean the place since the dust and dirty windows are quite apparent.
