Beware ... It will stop printing when it decides you need toner ... Brother will not help
Technically, this is an excellent printer. I have used Brothers printers for 20 years and have found them to b e the best.
Also, in the past, Tech support has been excellent. BUT - things have changed.
Every Brother's laser I have had has had a feature than monitors the toner an d either warned you when it thought the toner level was low or automatically stopped printing when it thought it was low. Problem is that it does not actually measure the toner's performance and it always triggers an alert well before it is needed. In the past, you could opt to turn off the automatic stop and just continue. On some of my machines, there was a option in setup. Others, you needed to use the keypad. But you could easily find out how to do this from the User Manual or by contact from Brother. WITH this machine, it is different. There is no switch that you can access to from the machine's setup to turn off the automatic stop. There is n o guidance in the User Manual and Brother will not tell you how to do this by email or letter. They claim it is again st policy to reveal the intern al workings of the machine by those means. You need to call and get the assistance from them. But, I am deaf. The phone I c an use cannot get through their automatic menus. So I asked to have the instructions sent. They refused.
Fortunately, I found information on the web to help me. So much for secrecy an d protecting the "inner working gs" of their machine that is now MY Machine.
Again, technically, this printer is a great performer. BUT Brother is no longer a great performer as a business an d it is likely that its technical prowess will also deteriorate in the future.
FINAL NOTE: WHEN I BOUGHT THIS MACHINE, IT WAS JUST $169. IT IS NOT MORE THAN DOUBLED, SO I CANNOT SAY HOW IT STACKS UP AGAINST EXPENSIVE ALTERNATIVES.
