Problems after install Received pump earlier than expected but took a few days to get organized with connection parts. It took me about three hours plus to hook it up. That done, a problem arose with its operation. The motor does make a squealing noise at start up (Prime) and again when shut down. I contacted the seller who could not assure me of being able to return it due to the fact that it was hooked up. Time will tell how well this purchase works out. I have only had it installed a few days. I chose this pump over the Intelliflow for a couple reasons: 1) More replaceable parts - I heard horror stories about having to replace the entire pentasir pump because of lack of serviceability. 2) The remote control unit with included cable. I could have gotten a $200 rebate from the utility, but it required "professional" installation. Bought this pump from here last week and had a local professional install it a few days ago. He had it up and running in minutes. With this replacing an old single speed brass housing pump I cant wait to see my next electric bill. If I would make any changes, i wish the controller had a battery backup. Resetting the clock is not hard Im just lazy. Had a power outage (pump was not on or cause) today.

The past week of research and asking questions has taught me that EVERYONE has an opinion...especially people who are in the pool business.. But one has to be very discerning when choosing which opinion counts more than the others. Just installed my new pump, its really quiet and cant beat the price with controller and all. Hope it lasts as long as my old challenger. Only thing I'm not crazy about is 220 stays on the pump all the time, I'm worried about power spikes and surges messing up the boards on the motor.
Jandy failure under 2 years later... **** UPDATED REVIEW **** READ **** Well unfortunately I was out enjoying one of our rare hot summer days (fathers day no less) and the all of a sudden the pump made a loud popping sound and high pitched grinding noises. To make a long story short the pump is kaput. Either the motor bearing or something more complicated but either way its toast. I received the Jandy pump to today via FedEx ground Saturday delivery - nice. It took about 3 hours to install. First be aware that this is Jandy pump is NOT quite a "drop-in" replacement. The fittings from the Pentair are smaller diameter probably 2"x1.5" and the Jandy appear to be 2.5" x2" so you will likely need to redo the PVC connections.
