I've been using Madison Reed hair color for a while now. Well, since about June when I couldn't stand looking at my "quarantine roots" anymore. I hate doing my own hair color, since it's close to impossible to get the hair in the back colored properly, but it's cheaper than salon color, and I'm able to color my hair more often if I like. I previously visited the Cherry Creek location but my work moved locations to Boulder and it's closer to my home. The staff at the Cherry Creek location are amazing, positive, service oriented and wonderful. After giving the Boulder location a " college try" for months now and after my last negative experience, I've made the decision to leave Madison Reed all together. I had good experience with the Denver location. I would avoid the Boulder location at all costs. If you want to listen about the physical ailments of your colorist while getting your roots done--in great detail, including medications, side effects, her chronic diseases, gastrointestinal issues, financial woes, and how terrible it is to work for Madison Reed, then I highly suggest the Boulder location. I paid a large amount of money to have my forehead skin stained so badly I couldn't go to a planned party that evening. then woke up the next morning and realized the consultant hadn't factored in how light my gray hair was up top, and chose a color that basically dyed my hair a strange brassy copper orange color up top. so basically I paid over $100 for the privilege of looking like a bad box color dye job done at home by someone who had no idea what they are doing. The people working there were very kind. But my hair looks awful, it's way darker than I wanted and looks terrible with my skin tone, and I paid $90 for that. There's no cut/trim possible at all, go somewhere else for that, and they hand you a blow dryer "as a courtesy" unless you want to pay the extra $40 for a "specialty" blow dry. Now I am embarassed to leave my house. I'd never had a negative salon experience before, and it's no fun. Two stars instead of one because the nice workers deserved the extra star.

I am a huge fan of their gentle products and love the shade itself, but today's service was frazzling and a big disappointing to me. I booked a Roots & Gloss treatment, and the color application itself felt rushed. After my shampoo, the option is two choices: can either pay $45 for a 45 minute blowout (says "no hot tools, just blow dry") Or for free, which is what I went for, you get the option to "Blow dry your hair at our complimentary self-dry station" where they have 3 stations with mirrors lined up on a wall and... read more
