Even though the rain had set in, Sun Coast Marine still did a fantastic job.

Business response:

Not a great survey. In my opinion the survey was slanted toward the seller. The survey decribed a twin engine boat, with a port engine that wouldn't Rev above 1500 rpm, that made explosive sounds as it ran, that couldn't get on plane, in terms that suggested adequate performance. Further, the report suggested a valuation without an allowance for an engine rebuild or replacement as part of the calculations. How? Why? If I had not been present for the survey and sea trial I may have thought that the boat was ok. This, when... read more

I recently engaged Sun Coast Marine Surveying and Consulting to conduct a survey for a 2022 World Cat 235CC prior to a potential purchase. I appreciated their prompt scheduling and completion of the survey. However, after sharing my experience on a World Cat group on Facebook, I was informed the boat had been declared a total loss following a 2024 hurricane. Upon contacting Sun Coast to inquire if they had checked the Hull Identification Number (HIN), I was told that verifying the vessel's history was not part of their stand... read more

Business response:

It’s unfortunate to see a negative review, so I’d like to clarify the situation rather than engage in misunderstandings. A survey represents a snapshot of the vessel's condition on the day it is conducted—nothing more, nothing less. We do not look back at past conditions; we assess the vessel as it stands on that specific day. If there is no evidence of damage, we have nothing to report. Our work agreement does not include checking for prior damage claims or inspecting titles. In our 15 years in this business, surveying ov... read more

SUN COAST MARINE SURVEYING & CONSULTING LLC. They stole $1,300 from our business, we hired them for a pre-purchase marine survey for 2008 Sea Ray Sundancer 280. All information and owners details as well as owners phone along with marine address and business hours was provided, the principal marine survyor STEPHENS, JAMES 701 S. HOWARD AVENUE, SUITE 205, TAMPA, FL 33606, he never came to the marina and then called me and said that no one was there and that marina doesn't know that boat. The owner menwhile was patiently waiti... read more

Business response:

It seems there might have been a misunderstanding with the operations of your company, BOAT & CAR EXPORT LLC. It appears that you are engaging in activities that may not comply with licensing regulations in Florida, specifically regarding yacht brokerage. It’s concerning that your business practices might be misleading unsuspecting sellers, particularly when you lack the necessary yacht brokerage or salesperson's licenses. I’d like to clarify that the $1300.00 you mentioned wasn’t "stolen." The funds were for a survey that... read more

After the survey of my brand new boat at the end of last year I found out the electric for the radar and other items was not hooked up correctly. Chet at asun Coast said that is not something we would check. Now I found out that the bilge pumps are wired incorrectly as well. Unless the motors are on they will not turn on. Chet, guess it's OK if the boat sinks?

Business response:

This vessel was surveyed in November 2024, and you are leaving a negative review four months later? Your complaint is that the radar was not connected correctly. While I did mention that we are not there to rig the vessel, we are there to inspect it. According to the report, the radar was fully operational on the day of the survey, and there is even a picture showing the radar on the chartplotter in operation. What exactly are you expecting from us? Are you suggesting that once we demonstrate it is operational, we should de... read more

Sun Coast saved me from making an over 1/2 million dollar mistake. Needless to say, they are my surveyors on my next boat.

Boy did I get a lemon of a boat after Sun Coast Marine Surveying promised they were the best. No water on boat to test plumbing, no generator to test electronics, no canvas to see how destroyed it was. But I still paid full price. Here is what I got: I added water to the boat and it flooded the carpet in the cabin and filled up the bilge. There isn’t a drop left in the holding tank so all 20 gallons leaked out. Batteries were dead so had to get new ones day 1, starter completely corroded and stopped working, hydraulic flui... read more
