I was seriously nervous about my very first mammogram. The front office experience is extremely perfunctory. When you are invited back to the area where you strip down from the waist up, it starts to feel really real. It's very spa-like. Complete with lockers named for amazing and strong women in history, and lovely changing rooms that are large and comfortable with wipes, deodorant for after, and so super easy and welcoming. Needed a bone density scan and this came up closest and had high ratings. Very nice and efficient on the phone. It starts with a recording with only two options- thank God. Girl took all my info over the phone since I was a new patient. I got my first choice for an appointment approximately a week in advance. The place is clean and nearly empty. No wait. The service friendly and professional. Not sure about parking- I can walk here. I am going to do all radiology needs here in the future.
I was referred to Washington Radiology for a mammogram. The Ballston office is very convenient -- a short walk from Ballston metro station. The office design/colors are very nice and calming. They were very friendly and efficient. I liked the fun touch of names of women role models on the lockers -- Harriet Tubman, Sally Ride, Jane Austen. I took Harriet Tubman; another woman lamented that "Wonder Woman" was already taken.:)

This week I had my first experience with Washington Radiology (Arlington/Ballston office). I was referred to them by my new primary care physician because I haven't had either test for over a decade, mainly because of the negative experiences I'd had in the past. I am SO GLAD I went: 1. I made the appointment in person. I've been to the location in DC for other testing and this location is much more convenient for me. I needed a bone density test and was able to make an appointment for just a few days after calling. The lobby was very cute and nicely decorated. The whole office seemed very clean and new (I think the front desk lady said they had only been there a year). They have some customer service issues. Staff is not great. The billing system has serious problems. If you want a minor copay bill sent to collections instead of you for payment this is the right place.
Go anywhere else. After waiting 6 months for my appointment, I showed up and no one was there. Like no one: no receptionist, no technician, zero people. A few other patients were in the waiting room just sitting there. I tried to call, but of course didn't get an answer. Finally someone called me to say they were closed and was happy to reschedule me for 6 months later. I told them that was outrageous and asked to speak with a manager. First of all I've had my appointments with Arlington, VA location for over 10 years and each time the receptionist is very brusque and not customer friendly. Today she was very short with me since I didn't have my physician order but in the past, for a general breast exam, it was not required. She certainly made it an issue this time.
