I would not recommend anyone go to Aspen Dental in Ankeny. Not only did they demand pre-payment 2-weeks before the procedure or they would cancel the appointment, they "forgot" to credit this pre-payment on the bill I received which also reflected an additional $600 charge. The additional charge stemmed from providing a procedure that was medically unnecessary. No approval was provided for this procedure and they knew insurance wouldn't cover it. Went for a routine cleaning yesterday in Ankeny, IA and walked out with a $130 bill. Why? Because the hygienist did some procedures that were not covered by my insurance. If she would have told me what she had planned to do before the visit even started, I would have told her not to, because my insurance doesn't cover it. She didn't bother to check with me about what she was doing, just did it and expected me to pay the bill. I do not like being deceived and will will not be returning.
Very nice employees, that it. I was satisfied with my fillings but it never did stop the pain. They told me if the pain lasted is probably need a root canal... well I’m not made of money and EVERY filling I got is still in pain after four or five months can’t remember. So now I live on oral gel because I refuse to go back and have my teeth ruined even more.

Was the worst experience! My appt was at 9. Didn't get in until 9:30 for X-rays. The girl doing the x-rays was horrible. After she gouged my gums with the wrong size x-ray thing, she finally took X-rays. It took 20 minutes. Then I sat in th dentist chair for 30 minutes. Dentist came in and looked at my teeth. Talked about fixing a tooth. He left then 15 minutes later hygienist came in. She poked at my teeth then went into what was wrong with my teeth. Then waited 15 minutes to get the finance lady. I went in as a new patient. They did x-rays and a consult. It took 2 .... hours. I wasn't too happy !!!! Then I made another appt. and she said they need $50 down payment for the next visit. They told me when I called I didn't have to pay anything that day !!!!! Ridiculous !!!

I paid to have four wisdom teeth removed in 2011. Only 3.5 were extracted. For several months after surgery, shards of tooth would work themselves out of my gums. After 6 months, the remaining piece of a bottom wisdom tooth began to push through my gums. I waited before going back for a re-examination & x-rays. 0 star experience. Scheduled a regular cleaning and spent 30 minutes getting a "screening" before finding out they don't do cleanings for new patients on the first visit. Had to schedule a second visit to get my teeth cleaned. They performed a $71 cancer screening without asking or informing me that this was not covered by insurance (I had previously told the hygienist I only wanted services covered by insurance). Will not be back and will actively discourage others from visiting.
The staff at this location is great, no doubt about it! That is why this review is not a one star. However, every time I go here I pay my entire bill-- and every time I get another random bill in the mail a few weeks later for $25-30. Every. Single.Time. This has occurred on at least 4 separate occasions now. Nobody is able to fully explain why this happens, citing the "mysteries" of insurance coverage. My husband went to get a tooth fixed and they didn't do anything to the tooth that day - set up for an appointment at the end of the week to fix problem but wanted him to come in for a cleaning before fixing the tooth. Then they made him pay for half the cost of the dental work they hadn't even done. They called to reschedule the appointment and we decided to go else where.
