Joe got Covid at Avalon. Wife was not called and when I went to see him he was moved from his room to a Covid unit. I did not see him for 2 weeks and when I called no one called back ever. The phone system there has a lot to be desired. The people working there are good but there are very short staffed. It took near an hour for them to answer when you ring the bell.

The personal care was very good. All of the personnel are very friendly and knowledgeable. I needed to be stronger in able to move into the wheelchair or on and off the toilet and in and out of bed. My wife has worked with me for just a couple of days and I can already get up and down better. We realize your days were busy but getting patients home is important. Getting the patient able to get up and down with little assistance is key. I know the unit used to get me up and down was key in the beginning but should have b... read more

The employees are wonderful you just need more of them. when you have to wait too long to get any help is not acceptable. Employees that you have worked their butts off and try very hard to do their best but it’s kind of difficult when you got one person to 32 patients.

Nursing staff was great. I do think the meds could be done better. I was there 5 days with no insulin. If my wife hadn’t called I would have never gotten it.

Staff are very caring, just overwhelmed. Biggest suggestion for improvement would be the food. Dietician met once with my mom & notes were incorrect about her diet. Very little nutritious meals served. I saw no real fruit, just canned & only salad for vegetables. Lots of starch & no flavor. Kitchen staff seems at odds with nursing staff. Also, did not learn about Essential Person information until a few days before my mom’s discharge. Visiting every other day was difficult for her. Lastly, I left a voicemail with the admini... read more

The PT and occupational therapist where very helpfull on my recovery. However My stay was fine, but I feel there are a few things that could be improved on : The cleanseleness of the rooms, the food I had was always cold and the knowledge of the staff for the therapy equipment I miss out on days of therapy on my knee because of this. Last of all I feel you need more staff because when I pushed the light sometimes it was 10 to 15mins before I got help. R. Heaton

Short staffed and a lot of inexperienced staff. Social services staff was very inept. Would never recommend anyone to stay there if you need skilled care with rehab.

House keeping us next to none, how many days does urine have to be on floor? Medication not on timely manner. How many others didn't get meals because staff won't wake person up? Why does it take so many days for Dr's orders to be carried out?

My mother was a patient, unable to care for herself while recovering from an illness. First of all, the food being served to patients is inedible and frequently unidentifiable. It is invariably cold. I’m not expecting amazing food in an institutional setting, but I would expect to be able to identify it. One plate arrived with an ant crawling across it. Complaints result in being told the family could provide meals. However, the patient is paying for these meals! Families should NOT be expected to provide meals. We did brin... read more
