Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

We go to the Harbor View for the location. This is our fifth time at this hotel. We love the location. Hotel could use some updates, but is generally a pleasurable stay. Pool was not heated this year, so we could not go in during the memorial day weekend. Restaurants don't offer a large menu, so we don't eat there. Don't stay close to the stairs in the Mayhew bldg. Lots of noise when people are going up and down and the door is slamming each time.
Great stay in MV Overall it was great...the only minus I would give it would be for room cleaning service( I think they were understaffed as far as room cleaners).Otherwise, location, staff and food were terrific.
Hotel is lovely though service was mixed. Cottage was well equipped particularly the kitkchen. Complimentary bikes and umbrellas are a nice touch for the guests and much appreciated! Pool is lovely & lawn games also fun. Lighthouse Grill staff and some of he bellmen/front desk staff seemed a bit inexperienced. Summer rates demand best in class service throughout he property. Will always return to this beautiful spot though with the fabulous front porch & rocking chairs overlooking the ocean. Happy summer!
Mixed review The main building/reception are was beautiful---gorgeous front porch, tastefully furnished, beautiful artwork. The bar area and dining area were also lovely. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately, our room was a disappointment. It was not in the main building and we were told a renovation is planned. If I had paid the full summer rate I would have been VERY disappointed. If the renovation for the entire property is up to the standard of the main building, it will be great. Right now, I would rate th... read more
