What a great experience it has been to have been referred to the specialist at Hudson Highlands Vet Group at Hopewell Jct by my local vet. My cat, PJ, was exhibiting signs of acute onset blindness and weight loss prompting me to immediately be pro-active. They arranged a prompt appointment, and spent over an hour with PJ. He was diagnosed with high blood pressure, which can cause the retina to start to detach, and was tested for many other things.... in order to monitor him closely, they arranged to keep him overnight. I... read more

This review is for Dr. Paul McNamara only. It's bothered me for 20 years and with the passing of our latest furry family member in such a peaceful and beautiful way, I'm reminded of a wound that never healed. ~ I was in my very early adulthood when my husband and I adopted a Beagle, Jack. Poor pup developed osteosarcoma at about 3 years old. He was diagnosed by Dr. McNamara. He recommended we euthanize Jack. Certainly a hard time. What I still can't get over 20 years later, numerous pets joining & leaving our lives, was our ... read more

My girlfriend Kassie drove 4 hours round trip with our dog Watley, to see Dr. McNamara. Watley is a chow breed, but he is not aggressive or mean. However he is *extremely* shy and anxious. He has NEVER bitten anyone or come close to it. Even after Kassie put a muzzle on Watley, the doctor refused to examine him and was extremely condescending

Business response:

Hello Peter, Thank you for your feedback. The essence of our values and who we are start with patient-centric, compassionate care, and best-in-class service, so hearing you felt otherwise is very upsetting to us. We want to assure you that we care deeply about our patients and do everything we can to come up with solutions that will help them feel safe and secure. Unfortunately, based on extensive notes provided by Watley's previous veterinary hospital and our own observations after multiple attempts to de-escalate Watle... read more

on 7/10/21 my friend went to Hudson Highland veterinary group for an emergency for her baby. When she rang the bell for after hour emergency service the attendant on service told her she could not help her. Would not see the baby even though told the baby was still in the middle of seizures, gasping for air. She was told to go to a 24 hour Poughkeepsie vet. When she got there the place was boarded up, closed. According to neighboring business customers the place had been closed for a while and other vets still kept sending p... read more

The staff here was very nice and helpful--but I have never seen my cat more terrified at a vet when I picked him up, he was literally shaking all over---also person who reads their CAT scans read it wrong and my cat is now dead because of it.

I wish I read the reviews for Dr. Paul McNamara before I visit that office and was verbally abused by the Dr. My German Shepherd had a Cruciate Ligament surgery (TTA) at my local vet in Rockland County and although that surgery went well, My Nyla now needed to get the Left leg repaired as well. Dr. McNamara came recommended to me since he gave a police discount and anyone who needed to get this surgery done for their pet knows that it is very expensive to pay especially when you do not have insurance. I paid the $165 consu... read more

Rude and unhelpful. I was visiting family in the area for Thanksgiving when my 2 year old Chihuahua became ill. After two days of use trying to use pumpkin and a bland diet to curb her diarrhea, she was no longer eating or getting out of her crate. I called this vet as I worked there many years ago when I was in high school and Dr. Whitefield owned the practice. The receptionist was very unsympathetic, and they wouldn't see us because they were 'booked'. She also wasn't able to recommend another vet in the area. For an a... read more

Dr Paul McNamara did surgery on my puppy. Although the surgery itself went fine, everything else was highly upsetting. He (and his staff who take direction from him) were irritated and impatient with my questions. They kept saying "these questions were already covered in the consult". I don't think it's unreasonable for an owner to ask the same question a few times. I am not a vet and the information was new to me and fairly upsetting. I expect to be treated respectfully and patiently even if it takes a few times for m... read more

Business response:

Mrs. Cohen, your google, facebook and yelp reviews took me by complete surprise since your concerns were never expressed during the many conversations you had with me and members of my staff. I am pleased but not surprised that your pet is doing fine after surgery and that you are fully satisfied with the level of care your pet received. My dedicated surgical team realizes that most pet owners are not veterinarians and that the information being relayed is new territory and often worrisome. We strive to tailor our communi... read more
