I had a Polaris 280 for 11 years. It worked very well for that time, but needed a major overhaul. I decided to upgrade to the 3900, and I was able to keep the same booster pump.. I have several bag types I used with the 280 that fit the 3900, (silt, leaf). I have had the 3900 for a month, and am very pleased. It climbs the stairs and gets on the bench seating I have in several places around the pool. The 280 was not able to clean these shelves. I am looking forward to a cleaner pool for at least the next 11 years.
