Having dined at S&W twice in Las Vegas last year over the course of two days - such as we were in a hurry to go back a second time - my friend and I were overjoyed to learn of the London opening, which coincided with us coming to London to see a special o2 event. Everything that made our US experience great was replicated here. Friendly, welcoming, attentive but not intrusive staff, absolutely no air of pretentiousness or anything like dress-code judgement, even though the staff are all so impeccably turned out and trained i... read more
Excellent time - seem to have captured the look and feel of the restaurants in the U.S. All you need now is the Rosemary bread they serve over in the U.S.!!!
S & W never disappoints, great food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere, felt like I was in New York City. Keep in mind great restaurants are not cheap, if looking for something inexpensive this is not the place. Everything exceeded my expectations except for one item, the Filet Mignon, if you are used to american steakhouse filet this will be a disappointment. All other steaks are USDA, but the Filet is a Scottish grass fed beef with a very "earthy" taste, I did not like it at all. My wife had the lobster which was ver... read more
Having eaten at S & W in NYC many times as well as Chicago, the opening of a London restaurant was too good an opportunity to miss. It didn't disappoint (although the service was a little disjointed at first - our table waiter disappeared never to return with some much needed water!). The service improved once established, however. The reception/meet & greet desk was also lacking (greeter was on telephone and we were left standing around - no one came to our rescue). We waited until she had finished. However, the menu did no... read more
Having visited S&W in Washington, NYC and Miami we thought we couldn't get the same experience in London. We were proved totally wrong. The 1920's feel of the place, just off The Strand, the bar, the food and the staff were all amazing just as expected. We shared the crab starter followed by Filet Mignon Oscar which was delicious and the seared tuna was cooked rare to perfection. We didn't have a bit of space left for desert. We have already recommended it to friends and will definitely be going back.
Having visited most Smith & Wollensky in the States, I'm pleased to say that London is as good as any in the States. First class friendly service and fantastic steaks. 10/10.
The organisation was very good ,although being early evening we were practically the only diners. The steak was very good , the French fries slightly soggy and the salad was fine . The drinks were good and the glass of red Californian wine I had with the meal was excellent. The price however spoilt the meal . At £144 + for two people with just a main course , 1 glass of Prosecco, 1 Gin & Tonic & 1 glass of red wine the price was exorbitant. I can only assume that the Irish and New York investors behind the restaurant are try... read more
Staff made us feel very welcome, and gave great recommendations -they knew the menu perfectly! Would recommend the shellfish platter it was amazing! Not really suitable for vegetarians but meat eaters and seafood lovers will have a great time!
The restaurant itself was lovely. A very warm welcome. The pre meal drinks were lovely as was the wine with lunch. The food was awesome- cant complain one bit. However, the service let the restaurant down. We asked for the wine to be decantered but it sat on the side with the cork in. Other parts of the service were also not up to standard. I love great steak places and the food was up there with the other greats such as Hawksmoor and Goodmans but the service was not as good.
