I would give zero stars if I could. I bought a post-frame building materials package from Summertown Metals. The contract says Summertown will provide contractor names to choose from, but the builder and the concrete contractor were both assigned to me. After the builder excavated below the pad’s finished grade, water entered the building after rain on three occasions. Summertown then sent a concrete contractor, again without asking me. This complaint alleges a number inaccurate things, and contradicts itself multiple times. Summertown Metals does not claim to be licensed contractor. Summertown Metals had no hand in any aspect of excavation, site prep, construction, or any aspect of this building other than supplying materials. Whatever conversations this client alleges took place, we have no record of. The "demand" referenced here was really more of a request which was replied to within the requested amount of time.
Serious water damage and foundation issues Every window in the building leaks. Multiple attempts to fix the problem left the problem worse, and the metal damaged. Now there are no responses from the customer service reps. Concrete crew did not put any metal in the slab. A crack developed within 2 months and continues to widen, giving me concerns about future shifts in the slabs, and other foundation issues. General construction quality is very poor. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Summertown Metals—particularly ****, whom I understand is one of the owners—was extremely disappointing. I accept responsibility for a returned check. Summertown notified me around lunchtime Friday before Labor Day weekend. Spent well over $100,000 on two structures in 2025. Sub-contractors were great but customer service from Summertown Metals is non-existent!!!! Spent 6 months just trying to get someone from customer service to have a door properly hung for the 3rd attempt, metal trim applied to 4 rafters as is normal expected construction along with fascia applied to rafter tails on two porches. I’ve been working with Summertown for over one year now. If I could give them a zero star rating I would. They said the project would take about six weeks. I figured 8 to 12 weeks would be plenty of time. Here we are one year later. They’re 6 to 700 items that still need fixed. Summertown built a building I cannot use because the concrete floor is 4 inches above grade. The sliding barn doors go down to grade level, so there is a 4-inch step into the garage. Now I can't get my equipment in there. I called to ask for help and they told me to just add a ramp with a gap for the doors. This is a stupid solution. I just looked on their website and saw many pictures of similar buildings with barn doors. None of them have this issue. Horrible Marketing/Follow-Up. The company makes the sales first and blindly and casually leads the customer through a “owner contractor” clause. This is very misleading if you’re a regular “Joe” trying to purchase and have built on your property. These are the professionals that know “all” the particulars of building codes etc. In my experience the emphasis on “owner contractor” should be first and far most the cardinal rule established and completed before making the sale.
