There was is so much from top to bottom, inside and out that needs improvement - we moved our loved ones out because it was not a safe environment.

I was not impressed with the set up of this community and the way that the residents were housed. It looked like a nursing home and I wanted different for my loved one.
One question I wish had asked is how they handle dementia-related behavioral problems. They have a three strikes and you're out policy, so just be aware of that. Their idea of dealing with things was putting my loved one in a psych ward and increasing his meds. In looking for a new place, they would ask why we were moving. And once I told them, no one wanted to take him, which put me in a really difficult spot. It was a horrible situation all around.
My loved one needed care, assistance, and help. We were under the influence and impression that our loved one would be getting the help. The staff and community gave our loved one the bare minimum. Due to COVID protocols, we were unable to know exactly how our loved one was being cared for. The only way we were able to see our loved one was looking in a window to visit them. My dad has resided in Barathaven for nearly 2 and a half years. During this time, I can say that many caregivers and nurses took as good of care as they could based on high turnover and constant understaffing. High turnover and understaffing falls solely on the Administration. My interactions with the care staff has always been positive, and keeping my dad’s care as a top priority up until this week.
