Went for breakfast for 3. Eggs and bacon. Nothing special. Eggs undercooked. $90. That’s NY Times Square. Meh.
They weren’t ready for us, insulting we had a reservation for 2 when I explicitly indicated 3. The maitre d left us standing in the middle of the restaurant and did not communicate what he was doing. When we finally sat down, they did not have our choice on the menu. We then left.
Very disappointing visit. We have been to The Brooklyn Diner on multiple occasions, but this was our last visit. My wife’s matzo ball soup was tasteless and the matzo ball was just terrible. The bagel that came with my omelette was clearly a toasted frozen bagel, also tasteless. The omelette was actually not bad, but there’s no way it can make up for the rest of the meal.
The pastrami was rubbery and seemed like it might have been reheated. The waiter just said Oh Sorry. Terrible service for such high prices.
Lots of food per plate, not great given the fact that its located in NYC.
Went here based on a recommendation from a friend who was there in the evening. We went for breakfast. The food was good. Nothing special, but good. My issues were with cleanliness and service. When we got into the restaurant, the entire place smelled like the bathroom of a bar at 2:00 AM. Almost made me leave, but we stuck it out. Service was not friendly. Like we were imposing on them. Made a reservation, but sure didn't need it. The place was very empty. Found stuck on food on the bottom of my plate as I was moving it aft... read more
New York Diner was very average. We were hoping for a really nice diner with a New York buzz. We could have been in any city in a very average ordinary restaurant with very average food. The service was good. We were in and out of the restaurant in a hour. I will not be back to this diner on any return trips to New York.
We arrived at 155 W 43rd St on time from Grand Central Station, a pleasant walk. We were seated in a section where the air conditioning was NOT working. Believed it would be returned to working order in a matter of minutes according to our waitperson. We should have walked out at this point. A drink of cranberry with Vodka took over a half-hour. The food: one order of poached eggs - could hardly cut through the muffin beneath the eggs! The other order: a no big deal overpriced hamburger. Therefore, would not ever return here... read more
The burgers were very good and priced at what you'd expect for Manhatten. The service was absolutely the worst we've ever experienced, from start to finish. The sad thing was our server kept acknowledging her poor performance and apologizing, but then joking about her poor performance and laughing about it. One thing she did get right--we were not amused.
