Get directionsMy mom, who dies in April of last year, btw, was there for about three months. She eventually decided to move to an independent living community, because in spite of having and paying for a high level of need, she felt it was necessary to keep personal staff person with her during the days. This was something a number of residents had to do, telling me that the care was insufficient. Trying to get laundry done was a nightmare. The dryer didn't work properly and laundry was sometimes returned very wet. When her staff did the ... read more

Most of the residents who can afford it bring in their own staff people to help them. My mother did and she was not the only one. She did not get sufficient attention from the staff there and since she brought in her own people she got even less, yet they were charging us full rate for hands on care. The laundry services that she paid for were terrible. The dryer barely worked. A load left in for two hours was returned to her still damp. When her staff tried to do her laundry they were told they could only do so on a specifi... read more

My mother went to this facility when she became significantly debilitated after a hospitalization. She and I are both arms. She required assistance with all ADLs, which we were assured would be provided by the staff and had planned to phase her home caregivers out after a couple of weeks. We ended up keeping them on and extending their hours to ten per day. The aides complained often about the poor care. Against her wishes, my mother was put in bed shortly after 8:00 pm most nights. When staff arrived at 8:00 am she was stil... read more

I've actually waited a couple of years to write this so that my emotions about the passing of my family member (which was natural) would not interfere with my assessment of The Ballentine. So at this point, I can clearly share how much I regret choosing this place. It began with the small discrepancy between what I was told in our initial visit and how my family member's first day unfolded, followed immediately by a lot of clothing and personal possessions disappearing within 24 hours, and also a second time. There were a lo... read more

This community was too far away for where I wanted my loved one to be and was not the right environment that I was looking for. The tour guide was really nice the community was just too far away for what we needed.
Business response:
Thank you for your positive feedback! Improving the lives of seniors and their families is central to everything we do. While we are sorry to hear that our location does not work for your family, we hope you will keep us in mind should you have friends in search of senior living in this area. Commonwealth at the Ballentine was an older place, and smaller. So we didn't really consider them.
Business response:
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Our residents and families enjoy our historic building and the thoughtful details it includes: mature landscaping, many sitting areas, and a charm of architectural elements not found in newly built communities. Perhaps you’ll give us a second chance after visiting other communities in the area. We would love to have you back here for lunch! Kind regards, Leigh Morehead Executive Director
Started off good but quickly went downhill. The lack of permanent front desk staff, lack of weekend staffing, issues with personal care, lack of effective responsiveness from management and more made us make the decision to move our loved one after only a few months. Additionally, the rates are high for such a low quality of service.
Business response:

At Commonwealth Senior Living, we strive to improve the lives of seniors and their families, and we are truly sorry that we did not meet those expectations. While we did have a temporary issue with associate turnover, I am pleased to say that our front desk and weekend coverage is secured. I recently moved my mother out of The Ballentine. There is no oversight of health issues at this facility. She developed a staff infection in her eye that went undetected, loosing sight. She then suffered a stroke, also undetected. I was informed the floor staff does not evaluate residents. I implore all not to entrust your loved one to their care.
Business response:
