a great convenient storage space right inbetween cambridge and somerville. after checking out the uhaul storage options first and was totally disgusted by the sketchyness/ghettoness, i came to extra space storage. not only is it $83/month for a 10'x8' space, but the inside is clean and large. they have security cameras throughout the building to make sure no funny business is going on! which is a great perk. you can also use the dollys free of charge. no need to buy your own! you just unload, pop your pin in and one of 3 ... read more

My favorite part is when they promise you the promotional rate for 12 months but then only give it to you for three. Also, there are rats.

This location has a very disgruntled employee who actually yells at customers. I accidentally left door open and he screamed at me to close. Kindness goes a long way when dealing with "customers". I actually feel unsafe around him. I will be finding another storage facility that provides a safer environment and VALUES their customers!!!

PRO: I toured this space and no one shouted at me. (See my review of the Somerville Ave ESS if you prefer being shouted at.) CON: Not much to recommend ESS McGrath in the positive. And you know, it's a pity, because I wanted to like this space. The location is pretty good; the listed prices are decent for the area; and I once rented from ESS on that other coast and had an unproblematic experience. Extremely rude treatment. Was given a price online and had a reservation. When i got there, the price jumped by 50$ a month because I was considered a "walk-in" When I questioned this policy, the manager Tiago was extremely rude. False advertising, would never do business with them, ever. I took my business to planet storage next door.

The Extra Space Storage facility is located underground, and the units I looked at had evidence of existing water damage. The manager on duty, Thyago, was one of the rudest people I've ever met. I'd rather set money on fire than give it to this company. In contrast, Planet Storage, which is right next door, is 1) above ground, and 2) has a really pleasant manager, who was helpful and courteous and 3) the units seal off from each other. Don't leave your stuff here unless you wrap it all in plastic and keep it off the floor.... read more

Avoid - unless you want to clean dead roaches and get greeted by dead mice. This is a great location, and staff are friendly and helpful. However, it has pest and vermin issues... It's a public storage space so some minor issues are expected, but two years ago I picked up a dead mice from my storage unit floor. Unless you want to get exposed to dead vermin resting between your belongings I recommend you look elsewhere. I also found several dead roaches in some my boxes after bringing back my belongings. I would have given 14 McGrath Hwy Extra Space a 5 star until last week. I moved to this Extra Space in April after 13 yrs of a good experience at another one. Got a good price off of the internet and great service. Old manager is now gone. Just got a notice that my rate is going up by 40% after 4 months! Watch out! "We're busy now. Have a higher demand so can raise prices." Yes, but you don't do it by 40% and don't jerk around loyal customers.
