Very deceptive pricing -- expect to pay nearly twice their quoted rate after 4 months. I was looking for a storage locker in late April, and saw a small space at Extra Space Storage for $129/month. When I called, they told me that was in fact the rate, BUT they could only rent it to me if they could add a $14/month "insurance" charge, even if I didn't want my stuff insured. I rented a unit at the Goleta CA location. When I spoke to the gentleman on the phone I told him that I wanted a closet size unit. He said that he couldn't guarantee me a unit that I needed a month from now so I decided to rent for 2 months rather than 1. I had used your Irvine location previously and didn't need to go into the office or have them let me in so I figured the same would be the case here. How do I give the Extra space storage facility in Carpinteria a minus star review? My belongings are ruined in their facility-- the outdoor unit doors do not keep the outside dirt from blowing in so everything is filthy , too dirty to even touch. And moldy from humidity. My belongings on the indoor units also are moldy and covered in blown in dust and dirt. They provide no services, have no expenses, but keep raising the rates over and over.... screw these people. super expensive and they raised the price THREE times in TWO years! Plus, there was rodent crap and a dead cockroach when I ended up moving my things out. The only reason they get two stars is because it's easy to get into and their, probably underpaid, employees are pleasant. Come on now! seriously? $800 a month to store things? Awful.

The rates go up continually. It's greed, whatever the market will bear. The units at my end of the property have no light in them so u depend on the hall light which is on a timer. Every so many minutes you're in pitch darkness and have to walk down the hall. ​For the cost of $540 you would hope to have a light. Have to move out because the rent is SO high. I, like many others, also had a bad experience with this facility. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! They apparently raise the rates frequently throughout the year [starting within 2 months from when you move in], and the rate increases are significant so even their "intro" deals will not mean much in the end. This disgusting company doesn't answer the phone, I've called over and over again to no avail. The owner or PR person left me a fake, caring respond on my review to call them so we may resolve the issue, but they do not answer- I've called numerous times. The only time these crooks answer the phone is for new business, if you're behind on payments (assuming a new payment on their end) , and not to mention but not only do they treat their customers terrible but they must treat their employees bad as well due their attitude ... read more

How this company has the rating it does is very suspect. Let me tell you what kind of a business this really is. When I first looked to rent from them in June 2021, the cost for a 10x10 unit was about $200. When I arrived in July, they had raised the rent to $394. Why? Because the severe housing shortage in the Santa Barbara area increased massively.
