Straight up lied to me about how increased payments would be handled. Didnt check with me at all before raising my monthly fee by almost 2 times the amount and somehow was able to adjust my auto pay without my approval. I had asked them when I first rented the unit if they would contact me when rates went up. Lie. I wont be using them again.
Horrible choice! Their rate hikes are ridiculously high and constantly rising! Just went from $150 to $209 per month for 7x15. I just left after 7-8 years of fighting with them over rate hikes. Found a local mom & pop owned climate controlled storage that is half the cost with no more than 4% increase in the last 2 years.
This Extra Space Storage seemed convenient at first--but a 74% price hike ($155 to $270) in a single year is outrageous and frankly predatory. They claim vague "market conditions" without providing any justification or transparency. If I ran my business like this, hiking prices randomly without accountability, I'd be out of customers fast. This opaque pricing model is a scam aimed at squeezing loyal Texans, especially shocking in a community like Westlake. Predatory business model where they lure you in with introductory rates and then jack up prices, twice in a year to be extremely unaffordable. They know they have your stuff, and it's difficult to move so they have you as a captive. You either pay to stay at the exorbitant rate or pay to move it somewhere else. Thumbs down.
I went in on a Friday to see if they had storage for a vehicle. They did and I gave all the information/RSVP and returned on Monday with the vehicle only to find out the unit I had reserved had been leased out to another renter. They had nothing else at that time and I was told they give priority to online customers.

Don't use this place if you like your stuff. My locker was broken into here. The lock was always locked, but the latch that is supposed to slide over didn't work properly, but you wouldn't know it. It slides, so you can close the lock, but the slide wouldn't go into the jamb properly. I would get random "soft close" messages, but I would go down and make sure everything was locked. This place used to be a reasonably priced location to use in Austin until February 2024...that's apparently when some seriously greedy jokers took over. I'd been renting from them for nearly a year and a half, and paying $113 a month for a 5x10 space. Then last month I get a text from them thanking me for my payment of $165.50! Wait... what?!? Consider this the card you pick up in Monopoly that says... GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL (with the picture of the Monopoly Man in black/white stripes) ...because that is exactly how I have felt as a customer of Extra Space Storage on Cap of Tx Hwy in Austin for the past 18 months. @ExtraSpaceStorage. I'm perspiring, and I haven't even began to work in my unit. When it's 69°F outside, this doesn't feel so #ClimateControlled - unless you count the heat.
