Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

Location good enough to overlook what's lacking The hotel is long on public spaces that please. Lobby area is great. Wrap around outside porch is great. Pool area and pool itself great. Great bar called Henry's. Gym is better than most. Proximity to town and also small terrific beach is ideal. We took two rooms because traveling with friends. Their room smelled moldy tho ours did not. The front desk and front door staff was largely burnt out by the summer and not great -- Bar, restaurant, and room cleaning staff were outstan... read more
New England Vacation Great location. Hotel was built in the 1890's and is in very good condition. I would have expected a more updated bathroom with better amenities in the room. The concierge was wonderful and actually made our trip a success.
Beautiful view from the wrap around porch! Hotel is on the older side and needs some work (balcony floor was splintered and peeling-needed shoes to walk on it) but we had a lovely stay. You couldn't access the pool from the hotel for some reason. You had to walk around the pool area to get to the lobby if you had a poolside room. Poolside bar was only open until 5pm which early to close, I think. the food in the restaurants was excellent and the view of the lighthouse and Harbour was stunning. I would love to stay again but ... read more
Nice Hotel but Late Check In The hotel is quaint and the staff is very nice and knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and island. The food was surprisingly good, the grounds were clean and well maintained and the views are just beautiful. Our room was clean and they gave us a free upgrade which was very nice with beautiful views. The only negative for me was the 4 pm check in time. We arrived there about noon and wanted to put our bags away and was excited to begin our 2 day stay on the island. The check-in staff info... read more
Great service, great location, needs "refreshing" My wife and I stayed here for a birthday overnight during Labor Day Weekend. Overall very enjoyable. PROS: Very friendly and helpful staff, located a short walk from the shops and restaurants in Edgartown, quiet area, very pretty view of the water across the street. CONS: Needs to be "refreshed." Peeling paint here and there, mildewy smell in our room, our toilet handle was broken, and only warm water (not hot) in our shower. I expect that in a $70/night chain hotel by the hi... read more
Great views but bad rooms at $500/night While the hotel has the best views from its porch, and best location in Martha's Vineyard, I would suggest you just go there for cocktails and dinner. Our room in the Mayhew section had wet carpets, a dehumidifier, sliding door that didn't lock on the first floor and a TV setup that didn't have a channel guide. At $500/ night, we had expected better accommodations and amenities. We of course notified the staff of the water problem which had bygoing on long enough to cause water damage ... read more
