I had such an amazing experience here last night. The service was fantastic. My favorite things were all in one place (great drinks, books and good food)! I have to come back again
I've been going to Kramers since they opened decades ago but haven't eaten there in a long time. This was one of the best brunches I've had in a long time: service was attentive but they let us sit undisturbed; and the coffee and egg dishes were sublime with perfectly poached Eggs Benedict and omelettes. The atmosphere is perfect--lots of light and books, what else do you need? I'll be back soon!
This DuPont Circle staple is a must-visit. It's an indie bookstore with a full restaurant and bar. The dining area is so comforting and relaxing. I love that it's a solarium with murals and greenery. Like most bookstores, they host events from signings and readings to book clubs and art classes. Lots of staff-recommended books at any given time. It's a lovely experience to shop books here whether for yourself or someone else. The food is pretty good too.
Stopped by Kramers for their new beach-themed tea time and it was great. The scones were warm and buttery, easily one of the best ive had. Got iced tea with mine (they do hot tea too, both really good). The loaded lobster roll was better than I expected. Plenty of actual lobster, not a bunch of filler. So disappointing to see how far Kramer Books & Afterwards Cafe has fallen from its former glory. The cafe was neglected, empty on a Saturday night, and the chocolate mousse was thick and gummy.
We had a great time after work at Kramers! It was a Wednesday so they have 50% off wine bottles, which is an amazing deal! We also tried their frozen cocktails, and they were delicious. I loved the Summer special lobster roll and we tried three of their pizzas, the chicken pesto, mushroom, the Hawaiian! Afternoon tea was delightful! It's well-priced for what you get. It's not a ton of food so don't arrive too hungry! If you are still hungry, you can order off of the regular menu. The scones were our favorite part. The patio that tea is served on isn't air conditioned (or at least not well) so plan accordingly. Drinking hot tea on a summer day might not be everyone's *ahem* cup of tea (sorry had to say it). All in all, I'd go back!
My husband and I frequently travel to DC, and Kramers is always a must-stop when we visit. I find the staff so friendly and helpful, and they always have the book I'm looking for.
Incredibly curated bookstore, and the restaurant is a bonus (great brunch spot!) All the bookstore staff are cheerful and supportive, and Layne especially was super helpful in finding what books I needed!
