I frequently go to DC for work. On my last trip I decided to visit the library and spent the afternoon and evening sitting in the main library working on my laptop. It was such a peaceful, quiet place. I got to experience the city and work at the same time (not in my hotel room). It's a stunning room. I watched the sunset through the windows! I registered for a reader's card across the street at the Madison building. Now that I have my card, I will make it a part of every visit.
The Jefferson building is such an amazing example of late 19th Century architecture. America was showing off to the rest of the world and produced the world's largest library in the interim. It's an amazing collection and an awe-inspiring building.
Not just a gorgeous place, lots of interesting information in exhibits! Seeing the books below made me ache to be able to just run my fingers along them. If only more people knew the importance of visiting such an amazing and important part of D.C.
A magnificent building. Disappointed in the "limited" public access areas, but the restrictions are understandable.
