My wife and I have been wanting to try the Brooklyn Diner for some time now and finally got the chance yesterday after the Columbus Day parade. The food was ok (my wife had the chili dog, which was lacking a decent amount of chili) and I had the chicken pot pie (which was huge but could have had more flavor) but the service was lacking. Although the food was acceptable, there was nothing terribly special about it. I got the double burger, and received two small patties that looked like pre-made, frozen patties. $19 for that and a handful of small fries (none greater than two inches long). My daughter got the $24 mac & cheese with frankfurters - a plate of mac with 12 thin slices on hot dog on it. Service was just all right - attention right up until the food arrived, and then, nothing. With so many other options, there's no reason to visit here twice.
Love, love, love the crispy polenta squares that are served with the Eggs Benedict dishes. However, still really miss the classic style with Canadian bacon. And, this time the eggs were a but under done and the hollandaise was too sparingly applied. Not their best effort.
Great service there for an early Saturday breakfast
One of my favorite places to eat in NYC! The food is always delicious and the service is outstanding. They are always ready for you when you walk in the door and you are quickly seated.
