The staff members at Charter Senior Living are wonderful, but when it comes to the meals those are not that great.

They are only friendly until you are in the door. I would not recommend them.

My brother was in the memory care unit. As long as he was calm and not causing any problems, the staff tolerated him. I found out when he was to be kicked out that he was too much trouble. Even though I was assured that they could handle his condition. I would not recommend this facility to anyone seeking memory care.

Business response:

We regret to hear that you had a negative experience with us. We'd like the opportunity to discuss this with you. Please reach out to our Regional Director of Operations at rconrad@charterseniorliving.com so we can discuss further. Thank you.

Charter Senior Living was VERY expensive. They do not accept anything but Patriot Angels to help with the cost. The facility to me just seemed cold and sterile. The facility itself was very spread out and you had to go through many doors to get places, it was a lot of walking for the residents. The sales people called me to death and it was just all about the business, not about the care.

The whole experience was a joke. We showed up for the tour and no one was there to give us the tour, so someone random stepped up. They said once it was over they would call us and they did, but it was 3 weeks later. They looked to be very short staffed. It also had that nursing home smell and feel to it. I would not recommend the facility to anybody based off of what we saw.

My Mother has been there [removed]. When Charter took over the level of cleanliness and the ability to receive calls from the director has gone way down. Was there on [date removed] and the 2nd floor reeked of urine. Several doors to the residents rooms were open and I was appalled at how some of them looked as far as cleanliness. I would not give them a very good rating. There are nurses there that are very caring but the people in charge are very hard to get ahold of address complInts. Not happy right now with my Mothers l... read more

They were not good at sanitizing the community. The staff was mostly friendly. We thought the care at Morningside Of Newport News was very mediocre. They didn't have much in the way of activities. We did not think it was worth the cost.

Business response:

I am the Executive Director and was disappointed to read your opinion of our community. At Morningside of Newport News we continue to diligently enforce enhanced sanitation and infection prevention protocols, and while we know that curtailing social visits and outside group activities has been difficult for our residents we have added in-room activities and other programming to keep residents engaged. As exceeding our resident and family expectations is our goal every time I would very much like to speak with you personally ... read more
